Yoshi Crochet Pattern (Super Mario)

Happy Wednesday! Today I am sharing a Yoshi Crochet Pattern with you (from Super Mario and many other Nintendo video games). This pattern was really fun to design, and you’ll have just as much fun making it! If you love video games, you’ll also like my Fortnite Loot Llama Crochet Pattern.

Materials Needed:

  • Light Green worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Red worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Yellow worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Orange worsted (4) weight yarn
  • White worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Black felt
  • Black thread
  • White Felt
  • White Thread
  • Sewing Needle
  • 4.00 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together, HDC = half double crochet, ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch, mc = magic circle

Yoshi Head:

Start with green yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Rows 3-4: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts).

Stuff work.

Row 8: Ch 1. Sc2tog in each st around. Ss. (6 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Snout:

Start with green yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. (12 sts)

Rows 3-4: Ch 1: Sc in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff work.

Row 5: Ch 1. Sc2tog each st around. Ss. (6 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Body and Tail:

Start with green yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. (12 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Rows 4-5: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 7) repeat around. Ss. (16 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff work.

Row 8: Ch 1. (Sc2tog. Sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (9 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc) repeat around. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1. Sc2tog, then sc around. Ss. (5 sts)

Row 11: Ch 1. Sc2tog, then sc around. Ss. (4 sts)

Row 12: Ch 1. Sc2tog, then sc around. Ss. (3 sts)

Row 13: Ch 1. Sc2tog, then sc around. Ss. (2 sts)

Bind off.

Yoshi Arms (make 2):

Start with green yarn.

Row 1: Sc 4 in mc. Ss. (4 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (4 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Legs (make 2):

Start with yellow yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Change to orange. Ch 1, sc around, ss. (6 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc ) repeat around. Ss. (4 sts)

Rows 4-5: Change to green. Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (4 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Cheeks (make 2):

Start with white yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. (12 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Chest:

Start with white yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5, turn. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across.

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in next st, sc 2, sc 2 in last st.

Rows 5-6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.

Yoshi Shell:

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 4: Change to white yarn. HDC in front loops only of each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Yoshi Spikes (make 2):

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Ch 2, turn. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. (1 st)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in st. (2 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

For Assembly: Sew snout to one side of head. Sew spikes to opposite side of head. Cut black and white pieces for eyes out of felt (use photo for reference). Using thread, sew this piece to head right above the snout. Sew cheeks to either side of the snout. Sew arms and legs to body, and chest piece to body. Sew shell to opposite side of body. Weave in all ends.
