Tardis (Doctor Who) Crochet Pattern

Tardis (Doctor Who) Crochet Pattern

Hello! Today I am sharing a Tardis (from Doctor Who) crochet pattern. This pattern was a bit tricky to design, because of the straight sides and edges. However, after I finally figured it out, it turned out great!

I can’t guarantee that the Tardis you make will be bigger on the inside, but I can guarantee that this would make a fantastic gift for the Doctor Who fan in your life!

This pattern is a bit long, but uses mostly simple stitches such as single crochets and chains. Without further ado, here it is!

Bigger on the inside (I hope) !

  •  Yarn needle
  •  Stuffing
  • Embroidery or sewing needle
  • Black felt
  • White thread or embroidery floss
  • Light blue thread or embroidery floss

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, , ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch

For the Tardis

In Navy Blue Yarn

Rows 2-6: Ch 1, turn and sc in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 21: Ch 1. (Sc in back loop only of next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn around corner. Do not sc in next ch), repeat this 3 more times. Ss to first st. (24 sts + 4 chs)

Row 22: Ch 1. (Sc in front loop only of next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn around corner. Do not sc in next ch), repeat this 3 more times. Ss to first st. (24 sts + 4 chs)

Row 23: Ch 1. (Sc in both loops of next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn around corner. Do not sc in next ch), repeat this 3 more times. Ss to first st. (24 sts + 4 chs)

Row 24: Ch 1. (Sc in front loop only of next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn around corner. Do not sc in next ch), repeat this 3 more times. Ss to first st. (24 sts + 4 chs)

We will now create a flap that will eventually be sewn closed to create the roof of the Tardis.

Row 25: Ch 1. Sc in front loop only of next 6 sts. (6 sts)

Rows 26-30: Ch 1, turn. Sc in both loops of next 6 sts. (6 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Reattach the yarn to the base of the Tardis. Starting at the base of the Tardis, sc a vertical row up the corner (the chs) of the Tardis. Stop once you reach the back loop only row (row 21). (Approximately 10 sts)

For the roof detail:

In Navy Blue Yarn:

Row 1: Ch 4. Turn, Sc in 2nd ch and each ch across. (3 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn, and sc in each st across. (3 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1. Sc in back loop only of next 3 sts, continuing to sc in back loop of each st of the perimeter of the square. Bind off, and sew rectangle to the center of the flap on the top of the Tardis.

For the windows (make 8)

In white yarn:

Row 1: Ch 3. Turn, sc in 2nd ch and each across. (2 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (2 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Using the light blue thread or embroidery floss, add a vertical and horizontal line to each window.

Sew 2 windows to each side of the top part of the Tardis. (see photo for reference)

For the “Police Box” detail:

Cut 4 thin rectangles of black felt. On each one, use white thread or embroidery floss to backstitch the words “POLICE BOX” on each rectangle. Sew each rectangle to one side of the top of the Tardis.

Stuff the Tardis. Sew the top flap (the roof) closed.

Whew! Good job, you finished!

I hope you enjoyed this Tardis (Doctor Who) crochet pattern, and thanks for reading!
