Joe Cool Snoopy Crochet Pattern

Hello everyone! Today’s pattern is a continuation of my most popular pattern ever; Snoopy! For the original pattern, I created some accessories that Snoopy’s alter ego, the Red Baron would wear. A comment on the original pattern suggested that I should make Snoopy as Joe Cool (another one of Snoopy’s many characters in the Peanuts comics), so here it is! A Joe Cool Snoopy Crochet Pattern:

Note: I’ve included the part of the pattern that explains how to make a basic Snoopy, but here is the original pattern with different accessories if you want to try it out:

Materials Needed:

  • Red worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Black worsted (4) weight yarn
  • 4.00 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together, ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch, mc = magic circle

For the T-Shirt:

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Ch 20. Ss to first ch. Ch 1. Sc in each ch around. Ss to first st. (20 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (20 sts)

Note: From this point, the front and back will be worked separately in back and forth rows.

Row 3a: (the front) Ch 1. Sc in the next 7 sts. (7 sts)

Row 4a: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog in last 2 sts of row. (5 sts)

Row 5a: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog in last 2 sts of row.  Ch 4. (3 sts + 4 chs)

Bind off. Reattach yarn to the next st over of row 2 (it should be right next to where you just made the 4 chs).

Row 3b: (the back) Ch 1. Sc in next 9 sts. (9 sts)

Row 4b: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog. (7 sts)

Row 5b: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog.  Ch 4. (5 sts + 4 chs)

Bind off. The 2 remaining sets of chs should be on opposite sides. Sew each set to the opposite piece to create 2 armholes.

For the sleeves:

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Reattach yarn to the armhole. Ch 1, and sc 12 around the armhole (you will need to skip over a few of the chs and loops). Ss to first sc. (12 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc in next st) repeat to the end of the row. Ss. (8 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (8 sts)

Bind off. Repeat on the other side. Weave in any remaining ends. To create the words, use black yarn and a yarn needle. I used a backstitch to add the words “JOE COOL”.

For the sunglasses:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss to first st. (6 sts)

Bind off. Repeat to create a 2nd piece. On the second piece, ch 2 and ss to the other piece.

To create the ear piece, reattach yarn to the side of one of the round pieces. Ch 4. Repeat this on the other side, then weave in the ends. I did not sew the sunglasses to Snoopy, but you can if you want. I find that the sunglasses stay in place quite well if you tuck the ear pieces underneath the ears.

I hope you enjoyed this pattern. Happy crocheting!

Gillian
