Porg 2.0 (Star Wars) Crochet Pattern

Hi everyone! Since Star Wars Day (May the 4th) is coming soon, I thought I’d share a Star Wars themed pattern with you. I did release a Porg pattern way back when I first started this website, but I wanted to create a new version because my crocheting and pattern-writing skills have really improved since then. Enjoy the pattern!

Porg 2.0 Pattern Instructions

Materials:

  • White worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Orange worsted (4) weight yarn
  • White worsted (4) weight yarn
  • 3.50 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing
  • 2 safety eyes (I used 12 mm)
  • 2 pipe cleaners (optional but recommended)
  • Black embroidery floss

Crochet terms needed:

Sc = single crochet

Sc2tog = single crochet two together

HDC = half double crochet

DC = double crochet

TC = treble crochet

Ss = slip stitch

Ch = chain

 st = stitch

Notes:

Stitch count is also included in brackets at the end of each row.

The tapestry colour change method is used for this pattern. Here are a few helpful tutorials that explain how to use this method:

For the main body + head of the Porg:

Row 1: Start with dark brown yarn. Sc 6 in mc. Ss to first st of row. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss to first st of row. (12 sts)

Row 3: Change to orange yarn. Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc in next st) repeat 6 times to the end of the row. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1. Sc 2 in st, sc in next 5 sts. Change to white. Sc in next 3 sts, sc 2 in next st, sc in next 2 sts. Change to orange. Sc 2 in st, sc in next 5 sts. Ss. (21 sts)

At this point, add the safety eyes between rows 5 and 6, about 6 sts apart. The eyes should go on the outside edge of the white section.

Using a yarn needle and black embroidery floss, add the mouth over rows 7 and 8 (about 4 sts wide) and add the nostrils between rows 5 and 6.

Continue working on the body.

Row 10: Ch 1. Sc 2 in st, sc in next 5 sts. Sc in next st. Change to white yarn. Sc in same st. Sc in next 5 sts. Change to dark brown yarn. Sc 2 in next st. Sc in remaining 5 sts. Ss. (21 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (3 sts)

Row 3: Repeat row 2. (3 sts)

Row 4: (Ch 3, turn. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and remaining ch. Ss in same st, ss in next st) x 3. Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

For Assembly:

Sew short end of wings to row 10, 6 sts apart (on the outside of the white section).

Poke a pipe cleaner through each of the legs and trim it, leaving a short end. Poke the remaining end through the bottom of the body (over row 17 and 18). Using orange yarn, sew the legs to the bottom of the body. Weave in all ends.

I hope you enjoyed this Porg pattern! If you have and questions or concerns, feel free to leave a comment. Happy crocheting!
