Miguel (Coco) Crochet Pattern

Happy Wednesday! Today I am sharing an awesome pattern with you: A Miguel (Coco) Crochet Pattern! This is a perfect fall-themed pattern, especially because Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is coming up too. It’s also super fun to make because of all the colourful details you can add to Miguel’s face.

Materials Needed:

  • Red (4) worsted weight yarn
  • White (4) worsted weight yarn
  • Black (4) weight yarn
  • Navy Blue worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Tan worsted (4) weight yarn
  • 4.00 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing
  • 2 safety eyes
  • Black felt
  • White Felt
  • Black Thread
  • White Thread
  • 1-2 colourful threads (I used yellow and pink)
  • Sewing Needle

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together, ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch, mc = magic circle,

Miguel Head:

Start with white yarn.

Row 1: Ch 1. Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in each st around, sc) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in each st around, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (24 sts)

Rows 5-7: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (24 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff work and add a black felt square, white circle, and finally safety eyes on top.

Row 10: Ch 1. Sc2tog around. Ss. (6 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Using multicoloured thread, add small dashes under the eyes.

Cut a small upside-down heart shape out of black felt and sew this to the face to create the nose. Use black yarn to add a mouth.

Miguel Hair:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Sc 3 in mc. Do not join. (3 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. Ss. (9 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. (Sc 2 in st, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 5: Ch 3. (Keeping the loop on the hook, pull up a loop in the next st and ch 3 more.) repeat until you have a total of 5 loops on your hook. Ss, pulling through all of the loops. Bind off. Sew this hair piece to the front top of head. The rest of the head will be covered by the hood.

Miguel Hood:

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Ch 1. Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in each st around, sc) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in each st around, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (24 sts)

Rows 5-7: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (24 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 2) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Place hood over head, leaving the hair sticking out, and sew in place.

Miguel Legs + Body:

Start with tan yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. (8 sts)

Rows 3-4: Change to blue yarn. Ch 1. Sc in each st around. (8 sts)

Bind off, and repeat rows 1-4 again to create a 2nd piece. Do not bind off.

Row 5: Ch 1. Sc 4. Switching to other piece, Sc 8. Switch back to first piece and sc 4. Ss. (16 sts)

Row 6: Change to red yarn. Ch 1. Sc around in back loops of sts Ss. (16 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1. Sc in both loops of each st around. Ss. (16 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 6) repeat around. Ss. (14 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (14 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 5) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff work.

Row 11: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc) repeat around. Ss. (8 sts)

Row 12: Ch 1. Sc2tog around. Ss. (4 sts)

Miguel Hoodie Pocket:

Start with red yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. (4 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in st, sc 2, sc 2 in st.

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Sew hoodie pocked to body.

Miguel Arms (make 2):

Start with tan yarn.

Row 1: Ch 1. Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. (6 sts)

Row 3: Change to red yarn. Ch 1. Sc in each st around. (6 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1. Sc2tog, sc around. Ss. (5 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1. Sc2tog, sc around. Ss. (4 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew arms to body. Sew completed head to body.

For Guitar Pieces (make 2):

Start with white yarn.

Row 1: Ch 6. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in st, sc, sc 2 in st, sc, sc 2 in st. (8 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (8 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog. (5 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (5 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc, sc2otg. (3 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (6 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog across. (3 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1, turn. Sc across in back loops of sts. Continue to sc around entire perimeter of piece. Ss.

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Sew 2 pieces together, stuffing  them as you go.

Guitar Handle:

Start with white yarn.

Row 1: Sc 4 in mc. Ss. (4 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in front loops of each st around. Ss. (4 sts)

Rows 3-5: Ch 1. Sc around in both loops around. Ss. (4 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (6 sts)

Sew this piece to the other guitar piece. Using black yarn and black felt, add guitar details.
