Harry Potter Sweater Christmas Ornaments

Hello! Today I’m sharing a crochet pattern for mini Harry Potter Sweater Christmas Ornaments. If you follow my Instagram, you might recognize these from a giveaway that I did a while back. However, I wanted to release the pattern too because I’m really proud of it and it’s super fun to make (I’ve made 5 of these so far).

These mini ornaments are inspired by the sweaters (or “jumpers” as the British put it) that Mrs. Weasley makes for Harry and Ron in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Someday I may release a full sized sweater pattern, but for now these ornaments are much more doable and quite easy to make. Enjoy!

Harry Potter Sweater Ornament

Materials Needed:

  • Red or turquoise worsted (4) weight yarn (approximately 25 yards per sweater, I used Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn)
  • Yellow worsted (4) weight yarn (a very small amount, see above for yarn)
  • 4.00 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • A small amount of wire (floral or jewelry wire will work)

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together, ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch,

For body of sweater:

Start with red (or turquoise) yarn.

Row 1: Ch 14. Ss to first st. Ch 1. Sc in each ch around. Ss. (14 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (14 sts)

*Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 7 sts. (7 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc 3, sc2tog. (5 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc 2, sc 2 in last st of row (5 sts). Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing. *

Repeat rows 5-7 on other side, making sure you are working in the same direction as the other side (the final rows on both sides should end on opposite sides of the sweater.) Sew the tops of the two sides together to create 2 arm holes.

Row 8: Reattach yarn to top of work. Ch 1. In back loops of sts, sc in each st around. Ss. (10 sts)

Rows 9-10: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (10 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing. Roll last row down and sew.

For arms of sweaters (repeat this on both sides):

Start with red (or turquoise) yarn.

Row 1: Attach yarn to arm hole. Ch 1, and sc in 6 sts around arm hole. Ss to first st. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2, sc2tog, sc 2. Ss. (5 sts)

Rows 3-5: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (5 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing. If you wish, sew arms down so that they don’t stick out to the side as much. Weave in ends. Using yellow yarn, use a backstitch to add the letter that you wish. Weave in ends. With the wire, bend the middle of the wire into a flat bottomed- triangular shape and bend the excess wire into a hook shape (one of the wires will form the hook, and you will wrap the other one around the hanger to secure the shape). Creating your own mini clothes hanger may take some experimenting to get the size correct.

I hope you have enjoyed this pattern for your very own Harry Potter Sweater Christmas Ornaments! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to comment and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks for reading,

Gillian
