Darth Vader Crochet Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Black worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Grey worsted (4) weight yarn
  • Red worsted (4) weight yarn
  • A small amount of white and blue yarn
  • 3.50 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • 2 safety eyes
  • Stuffing

Terms Needed: Sc = single crochet, Sc2tog = single crochet 2 together, ss = slip stitch, ch = chain, st = stitch, mc = magic circle

Darth Vader Head:

Start with Black yarn.

Row 1: Sc 6 in mc. Ss. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc 2 in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc) repeat around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1. In front loops of sts, sc in each st around. Ss. (18 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 4) repeat around. Ss. (15 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc 3) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff head and add safety eyes.

Row 8: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc) repeat around. Ss. (8 sts)

Row 9: Ch 1. Sc2tog around. Ss. (4 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1. Sc in front loop of each st around. Ss. (4 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Helmet:

Using black yarn, attach to the row of the head that has the loops sticking out (row 5).

Row 1: Ch 1. Sc in next 14 sts (These sts should be facing away from the safety eyes and in the spot that you want to add the helmet piece). (14 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in st. Sc in each st across until the last st. Sc 2 in last st. (16 sts)

Rows 3-4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (16 sts)

Bind off.

Darth Vader Nosepiece:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 2, turn. Sc in 2nd ch from hook (1 st)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in st. (2 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (2 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. Continue to sc around remaining 2 sides of piece. Ss to first st of row. ( about 8 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing. Using grey yarn, add vertical lines to the nosepiece. Sew the nosepiece to the head, in between and bellow the two eyes.

Darth Vader Shoes (make 2)

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Sc 5 in mc. Ss. (5 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (5 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Legs + Body:

Start with Black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5. Ss to the first ch. Ch 1. Sc in each ch around. Ss. (5 sts)

Rows 2-6: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (5 sts)

Bind off, and repeat rows 1-6 to create a 2nd piece. Do not bind off.

Row 7: Ch 1. Sc 3. Switching to the 2nd piece, sc 5. Switch back to first piece, sc 2. Ss to first st of row. Ss. (10 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (10 sts)

Rows 9-12: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (10 sts)

Row 13: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc 4) repeat around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 14: Ch 1. (Sc 2 in st, sc 5) repeat around. Ss. (14 sts)

Row 15: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (14 sts)

Stuff work.

Row 16: Ch 1. Sc2tog around. Ss. (7 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Belt:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 19, turn. Beginning in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. (18 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Belt Buckle:

Start with grey yarn.

Row 1: Ch 3, turn. Beginning in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. (18 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew belt and belt buckle to body, just above the legs.

Darth Vader Arms (make 2):

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5. Ss to the first ch. Ch 1. Sc in each ch around. Ss. (5 sts)

Rows 2-6: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (5 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Hands (make 2):

Start with Black yarn.

Row 1: Sc 4 in mc. Ss. (4 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (4 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Neck Piece:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 9, turn. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each ch across. (8 sts)

*Row 2: Change to grey yarn. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (8 sts)

Row 3: Change to black yarn. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (8 sts)*

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the piece is 9 rows long. You should have a black row on both ends. Bind off.

Darth Vader Cape:

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 9, turn. Beginning in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. (8 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (8 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in next st, sc in each st across, sc 2 in last st of row. (10 sts)

Rows 6-9: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (10 sts)

Row 10: Ch 1, turn. Sc 2 in next st, sc in each st across, sc 2 in last st of row. (12 sts)

Rows 11-18: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (12 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Darth Vader Lightsaber:

Start with grey yarn.

Row 1: Sc 3 in mc. Ss. (3 sts)

Rows 2-3: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (3 sts)

Rows 4-12: Change to red yarn. Sc in each st around. Ss. (3 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

For Assembly: Sew shoes to bottoms of legs. Sew neck armor piece to body (the grey stripes should face vertically), then sew the smaller edge of the cape to the body. Sew hands to arms. Sew finished arms to body. Sew finished head/helmet to top of body. Sew lightsaber to one of the hands. Using white, blue and red yarn, add small vertical stitches to the center of the body to create the control panel. Weave in all ends.
