Bernie Sanders Among Us Crochet Pattern

Hello everyone! Today I’m sharing a very interesting pattern with you: a Bernie Sanders Among Us (a crewmate) crochet pattern. As you probably know, crocheted versions of the viral Bernie Sanders meme have been going viral. I wanted to jump on the bandwagon, but I didn’t want to make a doll because there are already so many great versions out there. So instead, I made this Bernie Sanders inspired Among Us Pattern!

You may want to make my original Among Us Crewmate Pattern too!

Bind off. Repeat rows 1-5 to create a second identical piece. Do not bind off.

Row 6: Change to dark brown yarn. Ch 1. Sc in next 4 sts. Switching to the 2nd piece, sc in all 8 sts around. Switch back to the first piece and sc in remaining 4 sts. Ss to first st of row. (16 sts)

Row 11: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc in next 6 sts) repeat to end of row. Ss. (14 sts)

Row 12: Ch 1. (Sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts) repeat to end of row. Ss. (12 sts)

Stuff work.

Row 13: Ch 1. Sc2tog around. Ss. (6 sts)

Bind off.

For the backpack:

Start with grey yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5, turn. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. (4 sts)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (4 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. Continue to sc around the entire perimeter of the piece. Ss to first st of row. (You should have about 16 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1. Sc in the back loop of each st around. Ss. (16 sts)

Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

For the face/window:

Start with natural yarn.

Row 1: Ch 5, turn. Beginning in 2nd ch from hook, (Sc 2 in ch, sc in next 2 chs, sc 2 in last ch ). Rotate the piece and repeat this pattern in the free loops of the piece (the other side of the chs). Ss to first st of row.

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Row 3: Change to black yarn. Ch 1. Sc in the back loop of each st around. Ss. (12 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

For the mask:

Row 1: Ch 7, turn. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. (6 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (6 sts)

Bind off, leaving a tail for sewing.

For assembly:

Sew the backpack to one side of the grey part of the body. Sew the window/face piece to the other side of the grey part of the body. For the mask, tie a bit of white yarn to each short side to create the mask “strings”. Sew the mask to the face piece and secure the strings to either side. To create the hair, I used a bit of extra stuffing and pulled it through the stitches on the top grey part of the body. For the glasses, I bent a piece of wire into two circle, twisted it around the top, then bent the extra wire to the back.

And you’re done! I hope you enjoyed this pattern. Happy crocheting!

Gillian
